This joyful scene appears to have a touch of reality combined to a certain extent with his ideal vision of utopia. The composition adapts the “one river, two banks” expansive arrangement of Ni Zan’s so that the foreground scenery thrusts up to echo the mountains on the opposite shore. A small path winds through the left side to join with the shoals further ahead. The sails of boats take wind as buildings on the opposite shore come into sight amongst the trees, creating a small and self-contained universe of the artist in which nothing is lacking.(20100409)
