The foreground of this painting is composed of rocky outcroppings that complement each other with a stretch of water. On the bank is a willow tree, its gentle and beautiful branches harmonizing with the hard and solid rocks. A hermit’s residence is found by the water and backed by the mountains, nestled in the deep shade. Mountains rise up behind it, and several residences emerge from the forests in the middleground. The viewer’s line of sight is taken ever upwards until reaching a site beyond the mountains, where sails dot the distant waters, representing the ideal path in a person’s life.(20100409)
