This painting of mountains in the early morning combines both actual and imagined scenery, reflecting life experiences at his mountain retreat. The light and misty atmosphere of the early morning is transmitted via the washes of ink tones in the foreground. In the morning fog is a small skiff moored at the shore as a figure with a staff crosses a bridge and appears deep in thought, reminding the viewer of a reflective poet trying to come up with a line of verse. On the slope in the middleground is a solitary old pine that seems to echo the foreground form, as if wanting to reveal the pure and fresh feeling of nature awakening at the start of the day.(20100409)
