(20120106)@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@ Lin Fengmian (original name Fengming, later changed to Fengmian) was a native of Meixian in Guangdong. In 1920 he went to France to study painting and strongly advocated the fusion of Chinese and Western art, becoming a master of modern art in his generation.
This painting depicts a lady wearing archaic dress. The artist first used strokes to outline the forms and then added a coating method of washes for the figure’s skin. The clothes and background were all done in large patches of color coating, similar to watercolor methods. The decorative quality of the background is quite strong, clearly revealing the influence of Western painting, while the overall effect of the surface still has a strong Chinese traditional aesthetic.
The Dimensions Art Foundation donated this painting to the National Palace Museum in 1994.

(20120106)@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@Lin Feng-mien was a native of Mei-hsien, Kwangtung province. In 1920, he went to France to study painting. He later promoted the fusion of Chinese and Western art, and he became one of the leading masters of modern Chinese art.
This work, donated to the Museum by Mr. Huang Tsung-hung, depicts a lady in ancient dress. The artist first used brushstrokes to outline the forms and then a collage method of washes for the flesh of the figure. The robes and background were both done with large patches of color washes, much like in watercolor methods. The background is particularly decorative, clearly influenced by Henri Matisse’s style but still retaining the overall effect of a strong sense of traditional Chinese aesthetics.
