@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@In Exchange for a Goose
Fu pao-shih (1904-1965)
Republican Period
Fu Pao-shih was a native of Hsin-yu, Kiangsi. He studied art in Japan and painted mostly landscapes and figures, being influenced mostly by the styles of Ku K’ai-chih (346-407) and Shih-t’ao (1642-1707). He was also practiced in seal carving and was an art historian in his own fight, the author in Chinese of A Chronological Biography of Shih-t’ao, A Chronology of Chinese Art, and Chinese Art Theory.
In this painting donated to the Museum by Mr. Ts’ai Chen-nan, Fu Pao-shih has illustrated the story of the sage-calligrapher Wang His-chih (303-379) transcribing the Huang-t’ing Classic in exchange for a goose. The lines depicting the figures are delicate yet taut, while the trees and rocks are done with moist ink in a sketchier manner. Fu Pao-shih was able to create a new from of expression within a traditional style and subject. His inscription on the work indicated that it was painted in the western suburbs of Chungking.
