Tung Pang-ta (1699-1769)
Ch’ing Dynasty
Tung Pang-ta (style name Fu-ts’un, sobriquet Tung-shan) was a native of Fu-yang, Chekiang. In 1733, he became a Presented Scholar and took part in compiling the imperial catalogues of painting and calligraphy under the Ch’ien-lung Emperor. In office, he served to the post of Minister of Rites.
This album, donated by Mr. Lin Tsung-i, includes 8 leaves and depicts such scenery as layered ridges and streams, withered trees by a shore, and a fisherman’s skiff by reeds. The brushwork is gentle and elegant, the coloring of the mountains hoary and spirited. An atmosphere of ancient styles pervades, achieving the manner of Yüan artists. This work, recorded in the imperial catalogue, originally was part of the court collection.
