@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@Ch’iu Ying (style name Shih-fu, sobriquet Shih-chou), one of the “Four Masters of the Ming,” was a native of T’ai-ts’ang, Kiangsu. Of humble origins, in his youth he was a lacquer painter. His talents came to the attention of the artist Chou Ch’en (fl. 1500-1535), under whose tutelage he gained fame as a painter. Ch’iu excelled at painting landscapes, figures, flowers, and birds and animals.
This painting is but one of many that were modeled upon Chang Tse-tuan’s (fl. early twelfth century) Along the River During the Ch’ing Ming Festival Season, which is a masterful depiction of contemporary customs and folkways. The scroll exhibited here has long been attributed to Ch’iu Ying. It differs somewhat from Chang’s Sung dynasty work, however, in that it portrays theatrical performances, acrobatic shows, temples, and palaces not seen in the original scroll. In Ch’iu Ying’s Ch’ing Ming, the many people, all the many buildings, and even the carts and vehicles are finely rendered in careful detail.
This painting is the gift of Mr. Li Shih-tseng.
