收藏著錄@#@羅家倫夫人張維楨女史捐贈書畫目錄,頁125、174。@#@@#@內容簡介(中文)@#@ 朱耷(一六二六—一七○五),明宗室,甲申後為僧,號八大山人,又號雪個、人屋,江西人。能詩工書,擅山水、花鳥、竹石,筆情縱恣。不泥成法。所題「八大山人」四字,多聯綴成似哭之或笑之,蓋別有用意。與弘仁、石谿、石濤俗稱「四僧」。
此畫在構圖上承緒了董其昌「三四大開合」的理念;由於畫幅狹長,故偏重上下氣勢的連貫運行,以龍脈統理畫面,而省略了細節的描繪,故實景雖多,仍顯露出灑脫縱恣的空靈效果。

Ch’ing Dynasty
In this long, narrow painting the artist has emphasized longitudinal motion and continuity, using the range of mountains to unify the composition. Trifling details have been omitted; the results are quite realistic. It is the product of an untrammeled, unrestrained genius.
Chu Ta descended from the Ming imperial family, but after the fall of the Ming dynasty opted for monkhood. He adopted the sobriquet Pa-ta shan-jen, the four characters of which can be aligned to look like both the Chinese characters for “to laugh” and “to cry”. His brushwork is unmannered and unconventional. Noted for his landscapes and bird-and-flower and bamboo-and-rock paintings, Chu Ta also excelled at poetry and calligraphy. Together with Hung-jen, Shih-hsi, and Shih-t’ao, he is counted as one of the “Four Monks”.
