民國江兆申行書七言聯 軸

The profound and deep meanings of couplets often find their way into calligraphy, bringing their brilliance to the art of writing as well. Chiang Chao-shen frequently enjoyed reading poetry, a few lines or characters of which he would sometimes render in couplets. This seven-character couplet is a transcription from the poem “To the Retinue of Palace Writer Wang” by Huang Fuzeng of the Tang dynasty. The characters are slightly elongated and sometimes unintentionally depart from regulated brushwork, such as “tong 桐” and “lu 露” in the second half of the couplet. Where strokes join together, fullness takes the place of emptiness, reminding the viewer of Ming dynasty couplets with a similar quality.(20100409)
