This set of four panels uses gold ink in regular script to transcribe passages from Biography of Mr. Puli and Biography of a Wanderer of Rivers and Mountains, autobiographies by Lu Guimeng. The style is similar to that of Ouyang Xun. Lu as a litterateur and agronomist of the Tang dynasty. After serving in the office of the Regional Chief of Huzhou and Suzhou, he returned to his hometown of Puli (modern Luzhi in Wuxian, Jiangsu) to live in retirement, being referred to as “Mr. Puli.” Also he often took books, studio implements, tea utensils, and fishing tackle on boating trips among rivers and mountains, hence his name “Wanderer of Rivers and Mountains.”
Mr. Cheng Po-kun donated this work to the National Palace Museum in 2002.
