After retreating to Taiwan with the Nationalist government, and in spare time from official duties and teaching, he focused on calligraphy and seal carving, being much admired in academia.
Wang Chuang-wei's far-reaching calligraphy touched on regular, running, clerical, and seal scripts, which was praised for its bony and powerful strokes. His running script in a style of its own fuses the power of steles with the fluidity of brushed works. The strokes in this work are well-executed, the lines powerful and erect with a free and easy movement. The force is also fluid and composed.
This work was donated to the National Palace Museum by the Everspring Cultural Foundation.
