@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@These four large characters were written in standard script, but the brushwork is in places to that of running script—neither too fast nor too slow. Of particular note is that the ink for the characters appears broken apart. In calligraphic terms, this is known as “wall crackling”. In other words, the crackled brushwork is like the cracks that appear naturally on an old rough wall. It comes from the fact that when characters are engraved in stone and exposed to the elements, the surface becomes rough. When a rubbing is done, they often appear as white areas. Calligraphers sometimes adopt them as decorative effects to give an archaic feeling to their works. This is what Wang Chuang-wei has done here. He placed a wrinkled piece of paper under this work and, as he wrote, the uneven surface below resulted in places where the ink did not touch the surface. The result is a contrast between black and white that gives the appearance weathered stone.
