A native of Zhongshan in Guangdong, he formulated the "Three Principles of the People" and advocated revolution, finally succeeding at overthrowing the Manchu Qing dynasty and establishing the Republic of China, for which he is revered as the "Father of the Country" and as a revolutionary for democracy in modern China.
This horizontal plaque-style writing in four characters for "All are Equal Under the Heavens" has a colophon at the end by Kong Decheng, indicating that Sun Yat-sen calligraphed it as a gift for Li Minwei. Li was a following of Sun’s, and this work was used in a documentary filmed at the time. Sun Yat-sen enjoyed calligraphing "All are Equal Under the Heavens," and many versions of it still exist today. This particular one was used as the model for engraving the characters on the front gate at Zhongshan Mausoleum, where Sun is buried. The strong brushwork is vigorous and firm with great momentum, making it all the more precious.
Mrs. Shen Ch’ang-huan (Li-lan) donated this work to the National Palace Museum in 1997.(20110204)@#@@#@網頁展示說明@#@孫文(1866-1925)、號は逸仙、別名は中山、広東中山の人。
