@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@Chang Yuan, better known by his sobriquet Ta-ch’ien, was a native of Szechwan. During the War of Resistance against Japan (1937-1945), he traveled to Tunhuang and other Buddhist cave sites. He spent over two years studying the copying the paintings there, contributing a great deal to our knowledge and appreciation of Buddhist paintings at Tunhuang.
Each of the characters in the two scrolls composing this couplet is about a foot tall, making the height of the entire scrolls over ten feet. In fact, these are the tallest surviving hanging scrolls by Chang Ta-ch’ien. The brushwork is also very powerful and untrammeled, being quite different from that of his other works. These scrolls were donated to the Museum by Mr. Chang Chi-cheng.
