This is a woven interpretation of a painting that was ascribed to the Sung dynasty artist Ts’ui Po (fl. 11th c.).
This silk tapestry is done in colored threads on a light background. In the spring scene here, an apricot tree grows behind an ornamental garden rock as two swallows fly above and below. The signature and seal of Ts’ui Po were also woven in the lower right. The coloring of the tapestry is bright and beautiful, being mostly done in hues of blue and green. The blue threads of the garden rock are particularly varied. This imitation of a bird and flower painting by Ts’ui Po reveals fine weaving and an elegant manner, and the technique in make it is also quite fine and detailed.
