The coloring is bright and the hues harmonious. A pair of pheasants along with the pomegranate, lily, and bulbul stand as a metaphor for “harmony for a hundred years” and “growing old together,” making this a suitable theme for congratulations on a marriage. The tapestry skill in this work is very refined, using the “coiled shuttle” method to express a volumetric effect in weaving the warp threads. Color propping was also used to make the variations in the colors exquisite and rich. Brush strokes and colors were added to such finer areas as the bird claws, outlines of the branches, and feathers, capturing the details and proud nature of these birds in a very painterly manner.
