The other two represent Kuan-yin, the Goddess of Mercy, and Wei-t’o, Defender of the Faith. The clear illustration of the stories is complemented by the lively method of depiction. Threads of various colors range from light to dark, depending on the subject. Combined with different techniques of embroidery, the layers seem to stand out, giving the works a realistic and three-dimensional quality. Although small, the opulent coloring and fine craftsmanship convey the liveliness and expressions of the figures. Thus, the content of the works is easy to comprehend, serving a didactic function.
