The woven poem to the right expresses the wish for everlasting happiness and mentions the magpie as a symbol of happiness and the purity of plum blossoms. The original author and calligrapher is given as Wang Hsiao, whose seal was also woven as part of the tapestry. The coloring of this work is quite elegant and the weaving is steady. The positions of the magpies are realistic, and the twisting plum branches and clusters of blossoms are done in a lively manner. The open composition also gives this work a sense of directness as well as classicism.
