Hsu Yang (fl.18th century)
Ch’ing dynasty
Hsu Yang, a native of Wu-hsien, Kiangsu, was also known as Yun-t’ing. In painting landscapes, Hsu Yang’s use of the brush was excellent; in painting plum blossoms, his brush was elegant. Hsu Yang was summoned to the Palace as a court painter in 1751.
This scroll depicts a master returning to his riverside home at night carrying plum blossoms in his boat.
The brush concept is fine and precise; the application of color elegant and pole. Hsu Yang was extremely careful in his execution of this work, however, a few passages show slightly weak brushwork.
