He also excelled at poetry, writing, calligraphy, and painting. He once studied under such masters as Chu Yun-ming and Wen Cheng-ming. Lu’s painting style was elegant, and his landscapes and birds-and-flowers especially distinctive. This is the 9th leaf from Album of Mounted Fan Paintings by Ming Artists. A pair of mandarin ducks swim leisurely on a river as several fledglings play to the left and right. A decorative rock stands in the water along with rushes and duckweed. Done in the “Bone-less” (without outlines) manner, the composition is spacious and the coloring light and elegant. Pure and refined, it is a very attractive work.
