@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@ Wang Cheng, a native of Yangchow, was a lady of refined talent and the wife of Li Jo-ku. She specialized in bird-and-flower painting, and her works date from the K’ang-hsi era (1662-1722). Also gifted at poetry, she was invited by Prime Minister Ma as a teacher in his family school for ladies. A collection of poetry to her name was also published.
This leaf is from “Album of Ming Flower Paintings”. In this scene, reeds and autumn chrysanthemums mingle together. Among them are a small red spider and a katydid. Two butterflies also fly above and complement the scene. The arrangement of the work seems to shimmer, and the plants and insects appear quite lively, making it stand out among works by lady painters.
