He painted the album from which this leaf comes in 1696. The album subject originally illustrated farming by men and silk weaving by women in the country. Later, emperors adapted the contents or had them copied and painted as a way to remind them of the importance of these two industries in society. Farming and silk weaving take up 23 leaves each in the album. This leaf is of women weaving silk in an indoor setting. Outside, a young woman attends to a crying child. In her right hand, she holds a red lacquered tea tray as she sends tea to the women working indoors. Tea was a part of life and here the drink to quench the thirst of weavers hard at work.
