Chou Yung’s compositions and coloring were lofty and elegant. This set of 10 album leaves depicts 10 scenes of Mt. Huang and the Hsin-an River in Anhwei Province. The compositions mostly take the view of a high perspective or long vista. They deal with hermits and scholars at leisure, waterfalls and rocks, hills and peaks, pavilions and huts, and temple buildings. Though done from actual scenery, they are in “sketching ideas” manner for a more creative quality that further attracts the viewers into the scenes. The last leaf is dated to the equivalent of 1530, when the artist was 54-years-old.
