Since the heat can sap one’s energy, it is customary to rest if there is nothing urgent to do. Depicted here is a lotus pond with shady willow trees. The delicate shades of blue-green create layers of colors that suggest coolness. Elegant ladies on the second floor of a tall pavilion take respite from the summer heat. Others pick lotuses in boats along the shore, lean along railings, or leisurely boat in a canopied skiff. The viewer can almost feel the light breeze blowing over the water and smell the fragrance of the blossoms emanating from this work, which appears to have been done by court artist(s) during the Yung-cheng(1723-1735) or Ch’ien-lung(1736-1795) reign. @#@@#@內容簡介（英文）@#@Activities of the Months: The Sixth Month Anonymous Ch’ing Dynasty(1644-1911) The sixth month of the lunar calendar corresponds to the height of summer and is known as the “lotus month.” Since the heat can sap one’s energy. it is customary to rest and relax if there is nothing urgent to do.
