@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@Tung Ch'i-ch'ang (style name Hsuan-tsai, sobriquet Ssu-po) was a native of Hua-t’ing (Sung-chiang in Kiangsu). In 1588 he received his chin-shih degree, and eventually became Secretary of the Board of Rites. He was especially skilled in calligraphy and painting.
Tung’s brushwork was straightforward and casual yet refined. In rendering the shapes of mountains and rocks, forests and groves, rivers and lakes, pavilions and empty cottages, he employed calligraphic techniques to enhance the interwoven textures of lines and dots, resulting in rich variations between density and sparseness, and concrete verses abstract forms. He did not trouble himself with objective renditions of form and space.
Tung Chi-ch'ang completed this work in 1612 when he was 57 years old, for Ch’en Lien (Ch’en Ming-ch’ing). Later, the painting entered the collection of Wang Shih-min.
