As a youth, he was interested in painting and , as a result, gave up his career in order to concentrate on the study of painting. He expended great efforts at copying ancient works, and later received instruction from Sung Hsu. Sung Mou-chin excelled at painting landscapes, buildings, and pines. In this painting, bamboo grow before a window, a bridge stretches before a weeping willow growing along a shore, and two verdant wu trees provide shade. A person leisurely sits in a mountain retreat in a quite relaxed manner. Reeds grow luxuriantly along the bank by the willow tree, the leaves and stems of both bending diagonally, as if being blown by a cool wind into the enclosure of the man.
