During the K’ang-hsi Emperor’s southern inspection tour, Wang presented his works and then entered court service under the emperor’s patronage. His painting style follows that of Wang Yűan-ch’i. He specialized in landscapes. This painting depicts a riverbank among the Lu-feng Mountains. The layers of mountains are surrounded by clouds and mist. Thatched cottages dot the valley. The brushwork was skillfully executed, and features the hemp fiber modelling stroke. The composition incorporates contrasting elements and painting overall is similar in spirit to the works of Wang Yűan-ch’i.
