Completely free, she munches contentedly on the green grass. A small ox is by her side, raising his head and letting out a joyful bellow. This painting is taken from an album of landscapes by a Ming painter imitating the styles of Sung and Yuan masters. The painter concentrated his efforts on the trees, rocks, flowing stream and mist and clouds; though the oxen are relegated to a position of secondary importance in the painting, their interest blends with the landscape and augments the feeling of a green, spring scene.
