He excelled in landscape paintings and served the court during the K’ang-hsi reign (1662-1722).This leaf paints an early spring scene. The willows are bright with fresh green and the distant mountains are veiled in mist. In the middle ground, sit a few thatched cottages encircled with bamboos, and in the foreground, two men are talking quietly in a riverside pavilion. A boat gliding hitherward seems to be bringing a friend to join in a joyful gathering.
