Next to it is a fragrant spring-blossoming tree; below it resting against the bank is a boat, wherein an elegant gentleman reclines using his hand for pillow, looking as if he is intently listening to something. In the small boat in the distance a fisherman sounds a wooden beater to scare fish into his nets. The artist has throughout made careful use of tones. The poem in the lower left corner further explains the painting's theme: "The spring blossoms shed their scent. In the deep of the night the boat hugs the shore. From where comes the sound of the wooden beater ? "
