He began studying with Ch'en Chung-mei and later adapted his style. A gifted artist, Sheng was very skilled in technique. A foreground setting in colors along a river is set against a background of mountains. The artist has used two trees in front to dominate the scene and compositionally connect them with the hills. An angler turns his head to look at a pair of waterfowl flying off into the distance, giving this level-distance composition a sense of infinite space. The use of brush and ink is strong yet refined, being technically quite mature. This is the 8th leaf from Album of Round Fan Paintings.
