In comparison, the brushwork in this work is obviously loose in an attempt to imitate Lu Ji’s study of Lin Liang’s style. However, the carelessness and tendency towards rashness make the style of this work a mismatch for the seal and signature of Lu Ji. Furthermore, although Lu indeed often painted “lotus and egret” subjects, the bird depicted here appears to resemble much more closely a pied wagtail.(20120105)
