His style followed that of his father Li Ti but was slightly lacking in force. This work, from the album “Collected Sung and Yuan Paintings”, shows an intimate countryside setting where several reed stalks rise from the grassy ground. The horizon line is quite low, making the tall reeds stand out against the expansive sky. Fluttering among the delicate blossoms and plants are a pair of small white butterflies and a pair of red dragonflies. Although the scene here is quite simple, the arrangement of this “intimate setting painting” still presents the beautiful wonders of nature in miniature form.
