Equally well-known like tsan-ning, Yuan-wu, and others, he was known as one of the “Nine Monks”. He excelled in writing poems and calligraphy, specialized in painting geese, ducks and egrets, and was particularly famous for his renderings of small and intimate scenes. A pair of mandarian ducks are on a sand bar by reeds. One stands facing the wind, while the other lowers his head to peck food. Decaying lotus leaves sway in the wind. This painting depicts a scene of an autumn chill and desolate atmosphere
