Reeds and grasses grow on a slope by a bank. A herd boy is stretched out on the back of a water buffalo that turns its head and calls to the calf following behind. The calf looks up slightly. The artist has captured both this leisurely pace and the relationship between these two animals. The brushwork for the plants and slope appears somewhat rough and abbreviated. Furthermore, the features of the motifs have been washed with ink. The brushwork for the water buffaloes, however, is much finer. This is the 8th leaf from "Collected Treasures of Famous Paintings". Though a fine work of the Sung dynasty, it bears no seal or signature of the artist.
