He entered the Imperial Academy of Painting during the reign of the emperor Hui-tsuug, and in the late 1120s became a Painter-in- Attendance. He excelled in landscape and figure painting. This album comprises paintings of the four seasons. The first of these paintings is a depiction of stately pines, plum trees, small houses, and a skiff which floats on the spring stream. The second portrays a watery expanse of green lotuses, above which rises a willow-shaded pavilion where some gentlemen enjoy the coolness. The third is an autumn scene in which a winding trail disappears into a mountain pass. The fourth is a snowy landscape, where a man in a sloitary boat is fishing in the river. Within the confines of the narrowness of these paintings, the compositions are developed horizontally. The style of each piece is slightly different, and the first painting is considered particularly superb. The brushwork is masterful, and the coloring is exquisite.@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@This set of album leaves, bearing neither seal nor signature of the artist, was later ascribed to Li T'ang, a Sung dynasty court artist active from the reign of Hui-tsung into the early Southern Sung. In its history, this set entered the collection of the Ch'ing court, which is why it has the imperial seals and inscribed verse of the Chia-ch’ing Emperor (r. 1796-1820) and is also impressed with inner court collection seals. Two of the leaves are shown here. The imperial seals on the former, as they appear, are: Shih-ch'u pao-chi, Pao-chi san-pien, Chia-ch'ing yu-lan chih pao, Chou-chia yen-hsi chih pao, and Chia-ch'ing. In order, those on the latter are Chia-ch'ing chien-shang, San-hsi t'ang ching-chien hsi, I tzu-sun, Chia-ch'ing yu-pi, and Jih-chien tsai-tzu.
