A student of Song Moujin and Zhao Zuo, he associated with such Songjiang literati as Chen Jiru and Dong Qichang, also once serving as a ghost artist for the latter. His painting style derived inspiration from imitating the ancients, focusing on the marvelous effect of clouds and mists, with critics referring to his unusually elegant use of brush and ink as pure and spirited. This handscroll is dated to the equivalent of 1629. Though the title refers to it as a snow-scape, it still features light washes of color to give the land a touch of vitality, revealing the rich appearance of snowy landscapes in the late Ming.(20120408)
