He entered the Jesuit College in Italy at the age of 19 and there studied painting and architecture. In 1715, when he was 27, he was sent to China and on arrival was summoned to serve in the imperial court. He was a good painter of figures, flowers and especially of horses. Lang Shih-ning employed the techniques of the western painting in doing this landscape; as the result, the three dimensional effect of the mountains, rocks, trees and houses is for more apparent than in traditional Chinese landscapes.@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@ Lang Shining was the Chinese name of an Italian missionary Giuseppe Castiglione. He became a novitiate in the Jesuit order in Italy at the age of 19 and there studied painting and architecture. In 1715, when he was 27, he was sent to China and later was summoned to serve in the imperial court as an artist. He was a good painter of figures, flowers and especially of horses.
