Six buffalos, some young and some old, are being tended by five cowherds, three of whom are fighting over some disagreement, while the remaining two sit in relaxed conversation on the backs of buffalos, oblivious to their companions. The handling of the brush is rough and strong and the application of color thick and heavy. The painting is unsigned, and the attribution to the Sung dynasty was made by later critics.
