He was an accomplished painter of landscape, much appreciated by his great contemporary Chao Meng-fu. This painting depicts the land of the immortals where the sound of waterfalls echoes among mountain sides. Pavilions and balconies rise in many tiers above rushing waters. On a mountain terrace a man sits on a couch, apparently the God of Longevity. Celestial maidens gather round him, offering fruit and herbs and playing flutes and clappers. At the mountain's foot a stone bridge crosses a river; honoured guests are approaching. The artist used a rough brush to broadly outline the rocks and mountains, and then added details with finer brushstrokes. After applying the blue and green pigments, he also used some gold, thereby endowing the landscape with the luminous and glittering atmosphere of the realm of the immortals.@#@@#@網頁展示說明@#@本幅畫描繪仙山之中，泉瀑奔瀉其間。亭台樓閣沿著山勢流泉而築，有仙人道服持麈，端坐於榻上。石徑上、殿閣中，另有仙人遊蕩徘徊。山石均先用粗筆鉤繪輪廓，再以細筆作皴。暈染石青、石綠以外，更佐以泥金，賦彩金碧輝煌，益增仙境之佳妙。 舊題訂為元代胡廷暉（西元十三世紀後期），畫幅右方雖有「胡廷暉製」款，但不真。整體風格，較近於明代中晚期，應係後世能手託名之作。 (20120711)@#@@#@網頁展示說明@#@This work depicts a land of immortals, where a waterfall echoes among mountains. Buildings and pavilions rise in tiers above rushing waters. An immortal in Taoist garb holds a flywhisk and sits on a daybed. On the path and in the buildings are other immortals. The artist used coarse brushwork to first broadly outline the rocks and mountains, then adding details with a finer brush. After applying blue and green washes, he also used gold ink, giving the landscape a glittering atmosphere suiting this realm of the immortals. The old attribution is to the Yuan artist Hu Tinghui, a spurious signature of his appearing at the right. The overall style is actually closer to the middle or late Ming, probably the work of a gifted later artist with Hu's name added. (20120711)@#@@#@網頁展示說明@#@仙山の間を流れ落ちる滝が描かれている。山勢と川の流れに沿って建てられた楼閣や東屋があり、その中に塵払いを持ち道服をまとった仙人が榻（寢台）に端座している。石徑や建物の中にものんびりと步き回る仙人の姿が見える。山石はまず太筆で輪郭を描き、次に細筆を用いた皴法（畫法の一つ）で描かれている。石青と石綠を使った暈染（ぼかし）に金泥も加えられ、目にも鮮やかな彩りが仙境の美を高めている。 旧題は元代胡廷暉（13世紀後期）。畫幅の右に「胡廷暉製」という落款があるが、これは偽款である。全体の畫風は明代中晩期に近く、後世の名手が名を騙ったものと思われる。 (20120711)
