In 1670 he received his chih-shih degree and later served in several high official positions. Wang learned to paint from having grown up in the refined artistic climate of his family, but his own particular style expresses pictorial ideas quite different from those current at the time. This landscape after Wang Meng depicts an intimate landscape deep in clouds. The fluid handling of the brush possesses its own subtle rhythm. The colors are worked with variety and harmony. Great care has been taken with the painting, down to the very tiniest details. This work was executed in 1705 when the artist was sixty-eight years old.
