Good at calligraphy and landscape painting, he first studied the style of Wen Zhengming, expanding his repertoire with Song and Yuan dynasty works, his representations of flowers and bamboo as well as trees and stones especially marvelous. This ink painting depicts several decorative rocks and sprays of bamboo in beautiful elegance. It is signed, “‘Three Blessings’ by Xiang Shengmo in imitation of Li Xizai’s brush manner at the Langyun Hall.” The word for bamboo in Chinese is a homophone for “blessing,” so the depiction of bamboo also means a blessing for peace. (20121016)@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@Hsiang Sheng-mo, a native of Chia-hsing, Kiangsu province, was the grandson of the famous collector Hsiang Yuan-pien.
