本幅作於庚申(一六二○年)冬,畫山間白雲環繞,前景樹林茂盛,中間隱現人家,高士對坐閑談。筆墨設色俱極清雅脫俗,上方陳繼儒、董其昌題記中,亦讚其秀掩古人﹐謂之逸品。

White clouds skirt the mountain; houses, where gentlemen sit talking leisurely, lie half-hidden by the thick forest. In his landscapes Ku I-te (whose style name was Yuan-chih) emulated Wang Meng. He was a noted calligrapher and portraitist. As he seldom produced commissioned works, his paintings are few, and consequently all the more treasured.@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@ Gu Yide (style name Yuanzhi), a native of Hua-ting (modern Shanghai in Songjiang) began his study of landscape painting from his father, Gu Zhengyi. He also excelled at imitating the style of Wang Meng, his brushwork pure and beautiful. He was good at painting Guanyin figures, with all those who received one treasuring it.
This work, done in the winter of 1620, depicts white clouds skirting mountains. In front are luxuriant trees with houses hidden and scattered as gentlemen sit talking in leisure. The brushwork and colors are extremely refined and extraordinary. The inscriptions above by Chen Jiru and Dong Qichang also praise the beautiful archaism, referring to the work as belonging to the untrammeled class.
