From the rafter of the pavilion, a servant has displayed a hanging scroll and another stands holding several more scrolls. In front of them sit three scholars at a table as they discuss and appreciate the work. In the courtyard, a servant stands on a table breaking off a branch of plum blossoms and hands it to the other servant, who prepares to place it in a vase. In the foreground, two scholars are about to enter the pavilion, and they are followed by a servant holding scrolls and another with wine and food. These four hanging scrolls are all done with ink and light colors on silk. The depiction of ornamental rocks, clouds, and trees, as well as the ruled-line manner of architecture and furniture, is not especially meticulous. The rendering of the figures and the twists and turns of the lines of the clothes, in fact, have a loose and sketchy manner to them.
