One is leaning against the railing and enjoys the scenery as a servant with books stands behind. Another scholar pulls his sleeve as he inscribes the wall with a servant behind grinding ink and another person standing and watching. Two others are sitting in the shade of the pawlonia, opening a scroll in appreciation as several attendants are beside them standing with scrolls or washing tea bowls. This work was originally one in a series of four dealing with the four seasons, showing scholars enjoying the literati pastimes of the zither, wei-ch’i (go), calligraphy, and painting.
