The brushwork of the plum blossoms and sparrows derives from that of Bian Wenjin, suggesting Lu Ji having once studied from him. The camellia leaves and blossoms also follow the style in “Autumnal Egrets and Hibiscus,” but the brush movement and coloring is relatively stagnant, unlike the natural flow of Lu Ji’s lines and his mild and agreeable colors, making this probably a Qing dynasty imitation.(20120105)
