@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@Qian Weicheng (style name Zongpan, sobriquet Chashan) was a native of Wujin, Jiangsu. He came in first in the civil service examinations of 1754, becoming Vice Minister of Justice and also serving the court. In early years he studied Chen Shu’s flower painting, but later he delved into landscapes, becoming one of the leading court painters at the time.
This work, entrusted to the National Palace Museum from the Lanqian shanguan collection, features a simple composition to depict in the “sketching-ideas” manner such picked plants as the peony, plum blossom, and spirit fungus, completely bringing out the lofty purity of the plum blossom and nobility of the peony, for example. Qian Weicheng’s flower paintings were mostly done in colors, but this work is in ink outlines for the blossoms and washes for the leaves, making it relatively rare for him.
