(20121016)@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@ Shitao (originally named Zhu Ruoji), a native of Guilin in Guangxi, descended from the Ming imperial house, becoming a Buddhist monk after the Ming fall. He excelled at landscape, flower-and-fruit, and orchid-and-bamboo painting. Advocating one‘s own style, he broke from ancient conventions, becoming known with Jianjiang, Shixi, and Bada shanren as one of the “Four Late Ming Monk-Painters.” This work, entrusted to the Museum from the Lanqian shanguan collection, depicts lotuses in bloom in a pond filled with lotus leaves. The height of the stems and leaves differ much in size and pose. Though only in monochrome ink, the purity and beauty is still moving. Judging from the artist’s inscription above, it is a late work from the age of 60.
