@#@@#@內容簡介(英文)@#@ In this work with boats on a river, the distant bank seems to float in the sky with fishing villages and a temple concealed in the ever-changing mist. The brushwork is energetic through the use of axe-cut strokes. The artist employed mostly slanting strokes in a grand manner. This scroll is comparable to another Museum handscroll by Hsia Kuei entitled “Pure and Remote Views of Streams and Mountains.” The brushwork here, though, is stiffer, suggesting a later date.
Hsia Kuei served as a court painter specializing in landscapes and figures. His fame equaled that of Ma Yuan, and they were known as “Ma-Hsia.”
This work has been entrusted to the Museum by Mr. Wang Hsueh-t’ing.
